Use of steel as a construction material has seen exceptional growth in the last few years. Steel is extensively used in the construction industry because of its great flexibility, which makes it suitable for a variety of uses. Using steel, buildings can be constructed much faster, the costs are usually lower, they are lighter in weight, easier to maintain, carry a reduced risk of fire, and are earthquake resistant. One of the major advantages of steel, from both an environmental and an economic point of view, is that it can be recycled again and again without it suffering any loss of quality. Other advantages to the use of steel in building construction are that it generally allows for more flexibility in renovating the building for reuse later; the steel used can be recycled at the end of the building's life; and many steel elements can be manufactured and assembled in the factory, reducing the impact of construction at the building site.
